I used to think being a kid at heart was just about enjoying activities like swinging or coloring. The simple things. But now I have a daughter, and it’s even more. She has so much joy in her little body (she is going on 10 months at the moment) and so much trust that things will be awesome. She doesn’t think about what she does and whether that looks or sounds silly to others; she just does what she wants and expresses how she wants and enjoys life to the fullest. She loves deeply and trusts her family to take care of her, no worries clouding her mind. She is actively learning and exploring.
In Matthew 18:3 (KJV), Jesus says “Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.” There’s a reason we are invited to be as little children! I think it’s fully trusting Him, and looking for joy, letting go of societal expectations of our behavior, and actively seeking to learn and grow.
(Side note: I googled to look up the reference for this verse, and of course the ai overview came up with a list of verses and the meaning of each. I find it kind of amusing and rather bold of ai to give interpretations for each verse, considering the many, many different religions that use the Bible and interpret things differently.)
So while being a kid at heart involves enjoying the simple things (I love watching my baby discover things and be excited and truly live in the moment!) I feel it encompasses so much more.
